Marcella Maxwell, M.A., LMFT, LPC
Marcella Maxwell, M.A., LMFT, LPC is a behavioral health school liaison in the Department of Psychiatry. She is also a clinical therapist serving both inpatients and outpatients at Dell Children’s Medical Center through advocacy and consultation. Maxwell has a bachelor’s degree in psychology and a master’s degree in counseling from St. Edward’s University, where she specialized in child and adolescent cognitive behavioral therapy and family therapy. Maxwell has worked for The University of Texas at Austin since 2014. She previously worked on the Dell Children’s psychology consultation and liaison team conducting psychological assessments and brief evidenced-based treatments for children and adolescents who have complex medical histories. Maxwell now leads the Dell Children’s Educational Advocacy Program that works to help patients make the transition from hospitalization back into school as quickly and safely as possible while educating the school on the person’s physical and mental health needs. Leading the program, she also organizes free in-hospital tutoring for Dell Children’s inpatients, runs educational webinars on mental health topics for Central Texas school nurses and runs a research lab focusing on school refusal in children and adolescents.
