The ACES Clinic at Dell Children’s Medical Center provides multidisciplinary and comprehensive evaluation, management and treatment for obese children and teens, ages two through 18 years. Children are evaluated by a pediatrician with expertise in childhood obesity. Nutrition, physical activity and psychological assessment, counseling and guidance are critical components of treatment that are also provided for each participant.
Change is usually challenging, which is why we have assembled an expert team to help you and your family find success. Our team includes:

To participate, the program requires:

Parents and caregivers support is essential for success; thus, parent/guardian attendance at the clinic visits as well as their active collaboration in the treatment program is mandatory.
At the initial consultation visit you will meet one of our pediatricians and one of our mental health/behavior change experts. They will provide a comprehensive evaluation and assessment, and order any additional labs and studies that will be helpful when developing your treatment plan. We will then schedule you for a follow-up visit two weeks following the initial visit.
At the first follow-up visit you will review your lab work with one of our pediatricians and will also work with additional members of our team, including our dietitian, recreation therapist and social worker.
Follow-up visits will then be set depending upon your needs, usually every one to two months. Our visits are longer than a typical visit to the doctor or dietitian, because we have multiple team members who work with you to develop the best possible plan. Making healthy changes is a gradual process that will take some time, but we are committed to working with you to find success.
Our child psychologist is available for consultation and individual counseling as needed.
Please bring your child dressed in light gym shorts as well as a light T-shirt for their appointment.
