About Us

The goal of Dell Children’s NICU is to provide world-class comprehensive health care through compassion, innovation, and evidence-based practice for the most complex and critically ill infants of all gestational ages.

Our dedicated neonatal transport team brings critically ill babies from hospitals and other NICUs all over Central Texas and beyond for the highest level of care in our Level IV NICU. Newborns seen in the Dell Children’s Emergency Room who require admission to an intensive care unit may be admitted to our unit.

In 2021, our specialized on-site delivery unit will open and babies requiring immediate specialized care at birth may be directly admitted to our NICU.

To inquire about admission, please contact 512-324-0173. To refer a patient, please contact our Transfer Center at 866-459-5477.

Our NICU Facility

Our NICU has 28 private rooms featuring capabilities to control lights and sound to aid in the development and healing of preterm and term neonates. Some of the NICU features include

  • Two twin rooms allowing twins to receive care in the same room and families to bond with both babies simultaneously
  • Infant/parent bonding rooms within the unit to provide a safe space for families to practice independent care of their baby before discharge
  • Neonatologists are present 24 hours a day to care for the diverse needs of our patients
  • Via a secured website, parents can view their baby with the use of our NICView cameras
  • Two family rooms offering a peaceful place for parents to rest and regroup just outside the doors of the unit

Dell Children’s Medical Center

While your child is staying with us, rest assured Dell Children’s has been designed to keep patients and their families comfortable — a home away from home.

The instant your family walks into Dell Children’s, you’ll discover a family-centered care model—one that identifies patient dignity, confidentiality and ease of access as essential priorities. Each floor has a patient zone, a work zone and a family zone, as well as a waiting room to ensure families have a place to relax while patients sleep or receive treatments. We know having mom, dad, siblings and grandparents close by definitely enhances the healing process.

We believe a patient’s surroundings have a profound healing effect on both mind and body. This is even more true for kids. That’s why our facility was designed to stimulate each of the senses, with a healing garden, reflecting pond and an inspiring collection of art, sculpture and photography. In addition, innovative programs like expressive therapies and pet therapy take the healing environment concept even further.
