As children grow and develop, visiting a pediatrician regularly is critical for addressing any health issues that could need attention. At Dell Children’s, we’re committed to providing state-of-the art general pediatric care in both outpatient and inpatient settings.
Dell Children’s general pediatrics doctors are known for their determination and passion to delivering quality care to kids in a friendly, approachable way. Parents choose Dell Children’s when they’re looking for pediatric care they can really trust for their children.
Your child doesn’t have to feel sick to visit the doctor. Well-child checkups are a way you can touch base with our pediatricians to make sure your child’s health is on track. Services that may be included as part of a well-child checkup include a regular physical exam and immunizations, but you can expect your pediatrician to also ask questions related to your child’s mental and behavioral health.
The goal of a well-child checkup is to monitor your child’s general health and development, as well as give parents a chance to bring up any questions or concerns they may have.
Our developmental pediatrics team offers support for early diagnosis and treatment for developmental conditions in our littlest patients. The goal of Dell Children’s developmental pediatrics specialists is to help improve quality of life and minimize limitations on normal daily activities.
Teenagers have different needs from either children or adults, and our adolescent medicine program reflects that. Adolescent consultative services can help support your teen’s existing primary care doctor in diagnosis or treatment planning of complex issues that could arise during adolescence and into young adulthood.
General pediatrics at Dell Children’s Medical Center includes the support of pediatric specialists across numerous fields, offering some of the most advanced care in Central Texas for complex medical issues. Our multidisciplinary teams work closely together toward achieving the best possible outcome for your child, including:
- Consulting and diagnosis
- Treatment recommendations
- Specialist referrals
Because Dell Children’s is known for delivering skilled pediatric medical care, our general pediatrics team can offer comprehensive support and treatment for a range of more serious medical conditions:
Obesity in children is not uncommon and occurs when a child reaches a weight that significantly exceeds the healthy range for his or her age. This can be measured by a BMI, or Body Mass Index percentile. If the BMI reaches a certain value, obesity is diagnosed.
Dell Children’s coordinates with the Texas Center for the Prevention and Treatment of Childhood Obesity for better management of obesity and co-occurring medical conditions such as diabetes, high blood pressure and cholesterol, orthopedic issues or liver disease.
Common respiratory concerns in children include asthma and allergies along with bronchitis or pneumonia. Our general pediatricians can accurately diagnose these and other respiratory-related conditions to determine the best course of treatment.
Vision & Hearing Problems
Regular vision and hearing checks at your child’s annual well-child checkup help ensure the prompt diagnosis of any vision or hearing impairment. Accurate assessment and early treatment of these concerns is critical to ensuring your child’s quality of life.
Serious or Chronic Health Concerns
Management of chronic pediatric health concerns, such as heart conditions, mobility challenges or cancer or blood disorders, requires advanced pediatric medical care. Like vision and hearing problems, well-child checkups play an important role in determining whether your child may be at risk for certain health conditions. If necessary, our general pediatricians can then refer your child to one of our specialists for advanced care.
