The Ultimate Safety Net
The hospital is your child’s ultimate safety net. When your child is in health crisis and needs hospitalization, our specialized, professional clinical staff is ready to support their diabetes care. Our multidisciplinary team works under the guidance of your child’s physician. Team members may include:
- Specialists (endocrinologists, cardiologists, internists, neurologists, surgeons, pediatricians, nephrologists, ophthalmologists, podiatrists, to name a few)
- Certified diabetes educators (registered nurses and registered dietitians)
- Medical social workers and case managers
- Physical/occupational/speech therapists
- Wound care specialists
- Child Life Services
Research shows that diabetes education helps people prevent, delay, or reverse complications through effective self-management. We work with you, your family, and your physician to come up with a plan that can fit into your life. We focus on “survival skills”: basic nutrition information, when to call the doctor, target blood glucose values, how to detect/prevent/treat low and high glucose and other self-care behaviors aimed at preventing complications.
When diabetes goes wrong or your health condition warrants hospitalization, we are here to help you.
