Camp Kindred aims to facilitate connection between children who have a family member with cystic fibrosis. Through time spent together in a safe, supportive, and fun environment campers will participate together in a variety of unique, confidence-building activities designed to help participants develop their own emotional strength, resilience, and sense of mutuality.
Siblings and children of those with CF often witness and experience the stressors of a sibling’s or parent’s chronic illness, and often are isolated from others who share their experiences. Connections established at camp reduce this sense of isolation in a way that is distinctively different from what campers experience in everyday life. Camp is an investment in the lives of children who are so often the supporters of and encouragers for their siblings and parents with CF. Camp Kindred will provide an opportunity for safe emotional expression among children with similar experiences.
Through activities that are often new to the camper and designed to build confidence, campers will develop relationships with each other, as well as develop their own internal resources of empathy, confidence, and emotional safety. Camp Kindred exists to serve children in the Central Texas area, with the goal and aim to grow to other regions as able.
