My Passion for Healthcare

I was initially drawn to medicine because of my fascination with human biology, and during medical school I chose pediatrics as my specialty because of the remarkable resiliency of children and their families. My experience as a general pediatrician caring for children with asthma and allergies led me to pursue further training in allergy/immunology. In addition to patient care, I have committed a large portion of my career to understanding how to address the effects of environmental exposures on childhood asthma, especially among children living in low-income communities.

  1. Treatment of allergic conditions, including asthma, allergic rhinitis, food allergies and eczema

My Clinical Focus

I completed my fellowship in Allergy/Immunology in 2003 and have been caring for children with allergic conditions since, devoting the largest portion of my time to caring for children with asthma. I am also an epidemiologist and public health advocate. I direct a research program that studies the effects of environmental exposures on asthma, and ways to reduce exposure to these triggers, which include approaches individuals can take in their own homes, public health approaches, and policy approaches such as healthy housing and school regulations, and regulation of outdoor pollution.
