My Passion for Healthcare

I have been fascinated by the electrophysiology of the brain ever since I was an undergraduate at UT Austin. I earned a Ph.D. in Neuroscience at the University of Colorado studying how the electrical activity of the infant brain is fundamentally different than that of the adult brain. After obtaining my M.D. degree and becoming a Child Neurologist, I focused my postdoctoral training on understanding the disorders of brain development (such as autism) that lie at the interface of Neurology, Psychiatry, Developmental Behavioral Pediatrics, and basic neurosciences.

My Clinical Focus

My research focuses on trying to understand how the brain’s electrical circuits are different in autism so that we can develop new treatments to help people in their daily lives. As part of my clinical evaluation, I help identify each person’s strengths and challenges, and make recommendations for how to help the person achieve their developmental potential. This usually takes the form of evaluating the underlying biology and by addressing treatable issues like sleep difficulties and optimizing the school setting. This type of care is best achieved through a multidisciplinary team of clinic.
