AUSTIN, Texas – (Oct. 10, 2014) – Robert (Bob) I. Bonar, Jr., Dr. H.A., president and chief executive officer of the Seton Family of Hospitals and a long-time leader of the award-winning Dell Children’s Medical Center of Central Texas, will depart Seton in late November to become chief executive officer of Children’s Hospitals and Clinics of Minnesota.

Bonar is best known in Austin for working with the pediatric community to develop, construct and operate Dell Children’s, the only dedicated multidisciplinary pediatric facility in the region. One of four Seton teaching hospitals, the medical center is home to the only Level I pediatric trauma center in 46 counties and has a reputation for its family-centered approach to care.

Bonar joined Seton in 2002 to lead Dell Children’s design and oversee the transfer of services from Children’s Hospital of Austin to the Mueller campus in 2007. In the intervening years, he assumed administrative oversight of the local branch of Ascension Information Services. In 2009, he led efforts to recruit physicians into Seton-affiliated non-profit healthcare organizations. Today, Seton operates the area’s largest multispecialty practice and employs 544 physicians, including 264 medical residents and fellows. Bonar became president of Seton’s 11-hospital system in 2012.

Bonar also supported the establishment of the Dell Children’s Health Alliance, which helps pediatricians, specialists and the hospital provide clinically integrated care outside the four walls of the medical center.

Seton Family of Hospitals North Group President Michelle Robertson, RN, BSN, MBA, has been named acting president of the hospital division.
