How to Become a Dell Children’s Health Plan Member
Becoming a member is easy! You can choose Dell Children’s Health Plan as your insurance provider when you apply for or renew your CHIP or STAR Medicaid coverage.
If you already have CHIP or STAR Medicaid, you can change your health plan at any time. Just call the CHIP/STAR Medicaid Helpline at 1-800-964-2777 and tell them you want to become a member of Dell Children’s Health Plan.
How to Apply For CHIP or STAR Medicaid
To become a member of the Dell Children’s Health Plan, you or your children need to apply for one of the CHIP or STAR Medicaid programs. Here are three easy ways to apply:

After you submit your application, the Texas Health and Human Services Commission will let you know within 45 days if you or your children are able to get coverage. After you’re approved, you will be able to choose us as your insurance provider and you will choose a primary care doctor from our large network.
Do I qualify?
We serve eligible kids, including newborns up to age 20, and pregnant or new moms who live in these Central Texas counties:
To qualify, a child must be:
- Age 18 or younger. Children up to age 20 can qualify for Medicaid in some cases.
- A Texas resident.
- A U.S. citizen or legal permanent resident. The parent’s immigration status does not matter.
For pregnant women to qualify, they must be unable to get Medicaid and not have any other health coverage.
CHIP and STAR Medicaid eligibility is determined by how much the parents make, along with a few other factors. See the income chart below to see if you may qualify.*

How much does it cost?
CHIP costs up to $50 to sign up. Copays for most services range from $5 to $35.
STAR Medicaid/Children’s Medicaid has no sign up fees or co-payments.
