Three years ago, Aysa Province, a local Austin fashion stylist, started the annual Children’s Blood & Cancer Center Fashion Show. Little did she know, it would become a hit with the Hungry Bunch teens and the Austin community.
“The Fashion Show started as a thought that wouldn’t leave my heart. I have worked on many fashion shows and photoshoots here in the Austin area and had also been volunteering at the Children’s Blood Cancer Center (CBCC) for the past five years, says Aysa Province. “I saw an opportunity to combine the two to create an event specifically for the teen patients of the CBCC. My goal has always been to create a moment for the teens to feel loved, celebrated and supported by those around them. The Austin community has been phenomenal in joining efforts to make this event possible. For me personally, this statement of community dedication and support shows we live in an extremely generous and caring city.”
The fashion show features teen models from Hungry Bunch, a teen support group that helps adolescents and teen patients build supportive friendships and a strong support system with other cancer and blood disorder patients at the CBCC. The fashion show lets the teens pick out the latest fashion from Austin clothing vendors and then strut their stuff on the runway.
Aysa says, “Volunteering at the CBCC over the years, one of my favorite events has been Prom. The reason I love it so much is because, for the day, these amazing teens get pampered with gowns, makeup, hair, photos, etc. They light up and you can see how truly beautiful they feel. This inspired the vision for the fashion show. We wanted to created another opportunity for the teens to get pampered and have big moments in the spotlight with the community cheering them on. The show provides lots of love and happy distractions for one day from any struggles that these brave patients may be facing. I can honestly say watching them beam with confidence and excitement during the show is worth every minute, every dollar, every bit of energy that goes into making it happen. It truly is a magical day for all!”
This year’s fashion show will again be held at Fair Market in East Austin. And for the first time, live music will be added to the show. The Nightowls, an Austin soul band, will dazzle the audience with their exciting and choreographed music and dance. There will also be food, shopping, a silent auction, kids activities and much more!
Tickets for the fashion show are available at Eventbrite.com will also be available at the door. Funds raised from this event go to the Hungry Bunch teen group, which is used for its program throughout the year. For more information on the fashion show visit, www.cbcc.fashionshowatx.com.
