The Down Syndrome Clinic at Dell Children’s Medical Center of Central Texas provides a multi-disciplinary assessment and evaluation program for children with Down Syndrome, assists their primary health care physician in providing comprehensive health care, and assists in referring for necessary medical and diagnostic services.
Program Referrals:
Patients can be referred to the program by calling the nurse coordinator at (512) 324-0137 .
Program Staff and Services:
Utilizing a preventative medical checklist (ages 0-20 years), services include:
- Physical examination and related tests/lab work
- Chromosomal analysis
- Genetic counseling
- Developmental assessment
- Occupational, Physical, and Speech Therapy assessment
- Nutritional assessment and counseling
- Psychosocial assessment and family counseling

Case management with referral to:
- Medical specialists
- Early childhood intervention programs & related therapies
- Community resources and support groups
- Financial counseling
Other Services Available:
- Patient education resources
- Spanish language services
Team members include: Physician, Nurse, Occupational Therapist, Speech Therapist, Physical Therapist, Social Worker and Nutritionist
Evaluation
Visits with the team are conducted at the Specialty Care Center. During the visit, families meet with the individual team members and have an opportunity to ask questions. Written recommendations from the team are sent to the family and to the primary care physician.
