Pediatric Cardiologists
Pediatric cardiologists do just about everything but perform surgery. They diagnose, manage and medically treat patients with congenital or acquired heart conditions. They use non-surgical treatments and care for their patients post-surgery. In addition, pediatric cardiologists provide support to the surgical team in the operating room.
Pediatric Cardiothoracic Surgeons
Pediatric cardiothoracic surgeons provide surgery expertise for the management of congenital heart disease. They work with the pediatric cardiologists to diagnose and manage patients, and can perform procedures to alter anatomy. The surgeons provide pre-operative evaluation and consultations, as well as follow-up assessment and management after surgery.
Cardiac Clinicians
Our pediatric nurse practitioner and cardiac coordinator are an important part of our continuum of care at Children’s Hospital. They work closely with your child’s physicians to provide high-quality care.
Pediatric Critical Care Specialists
The pediatric critical care specialists at Children’s Hospital are responsible for your child’s bedside care in the Intensive Care Unit and immediately following surgery. The specialists work in conjunction with the cardiologists to care for patients.
Neonatologists
Neonatologists are trained to care for any infant in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, or NICU. They not only bring cardiology experience to the cardiac team, but also expertise in dealing with neonates.
Fetal/Maternal Cardiology Specialist
In conjunction with specialized obstetricians, pediatric cardiologists on the Congenital Heart Team are able to diagnose before birth many complex heart abnormalities. With this knowledge, families can be counseled on what to expect after their baby is born. Physicians also can plan how to best minimize the effects of the cardiac disease during the baby’s first days of life. In addition, planning for surgical and non-surgical interventions can be started before the infant is born.
