Erin Byrne, a cardiac rehab nurse, is very familiar with how the heart works. So, when doctors referred her newborn for open heart surgery, it was devastating. Erin and her husband were comforted by what she saw as an extensive and comprehensive team of specialists at Dell Children's collaborating on behalf of her daughter, June.

Promoting Heart Month (February 2012)
Members of the Dell Children's staff partnered with Travis County EMS to increase awareness of heart disease prevention. This information kiosk was staffed in the hospital cafeteria and promoted Compression only CPR, the Capital 10,000 running race, and cardiology screening services that are offered by the Seton Heart Institute.
5th Annual Pediatric Cardiac Care Conference (February 2012)
The Pediatric Cardiac Care Conference is an educational event sponsored by Dell Children's Medical Center. This year there were 110+ people in attendance to learn more about ECMO and acquired heart disease in pediatric patients.

"Precious" travels from Nigeria for heart surgery (January 2012)
Three-year old patient Precious and her mother traveled from Nigeria to Dell Children's through the coordination of HeartGift Austin. The support of the hospital, multiple heart program physicians, and community sponsors made her lifesaving surgery possible.
