Imaging Services at Dell Children’s boasts the most comprehensive facility in Central Texas dedicated to offering the tools needed to diagnose and treat children through imaging technology, including Digital Radiography, Fluoroscopy, Ultrasound, Computed Tomography, Magnetic Resonance Imaging, and Interventional radiography.
From standard services such as x-ray imaging and fluoroscopy to complex procedures like pediatric renal angioplasty and stent and PICC-line placement, our team of pediatric radiologists, imaging technologist and nurses works closely with physician specialists to offer the highest quality of care possible. As an example, we are the only facility in Central Texas that offers anesthesia to children undergoing difficult or time consuming procedures. When at Dell Children's, we feel it is imperative to make our patients comfortable during lengthy tests and imaging sessions.
Dell Children’s Imaging Services will house the new Magnatom Avanto-a 13,000 pound state-of-the art MRI device- The leap-ahead MRI device is one of the most complex instruments at Dell Children's, and with an internal supply of liquid helium kept at minus 452° F, it is certainly the coldest.
"It's hard to imagine this giant device as 'child-friendly' but that's exactly what it is," said Sister Teresa George, Daughters of Charity and Chief Operating Officer, Dell Children's Medical Center of Central Texas. "It has much more room and a larger opening so children are less likely to feel frightened or claustrophobic. And it's the quietest technology available."
The MRI device offers isotropic (which means 'identical in all directions') 3-D imaging for all body parts, and has motion correction software which compensates for a child's occasional jerks and fidgets.
