M. Hillary Onan, MD, Pediatric Ophthalmology
Dr. Onan graduated from The University of Texas at Austin with a Bachelor of Arts degree in ecomomics with highest honors. She then earned a Doctor of Medicine degree with honors from Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, where she was a Presidential Scholar. She completed a transitional internship at St. Joseph Hospital in Houston followed by an ophthalmology residency at the Cullen Eye Institute at Baylor College of Medicine. Her training in pediatric ophthalmology and adult strabismus was completed at Texas Children's Hospital. Dr. Onan served as Clinical Instructor of Ophthalmology at UT M.D. Anderson Cancer Center from 2000 to 2001. After a year in practice in Seattle, Washington, she returned to Texas in 2002. She has been the Chief of Pediatric Ophthalmology at Dell Children's Medical Center since 2008 and manages the consult and teaching services at the hospital. She is active in community education and residency training and has taught numerous pediatric, ophthalmology and transitional residents as well as giving lectures on the eye findings in child abuse in Central Texas.
Dr. Onan is board certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology. She is a member of the Travis County Medical Society, Texas Medical Association, Austin Ophthalmological Society, and the American Academy of Ophthalmology. Dr. Onan has also been awarded Texas Monthly's Super Doctor for the past four years (2006-2009).
Melinda Rainey, MD Pediatric Ophthalmology
Dr. Rainey earned a B.S. in Microbiology from University of Texas at El Paso and a Master's in Molecular Genetics from the University of Texas at Austin. She subsequently attended Baylor College of Medicine in Houston for medical school and finished her ophthalmology residency at Cullen Eye Institute/Baylor College of Medicine. In 1997, she completed a fellowship in pediatric ophthalmology and strabismus at Texas Children's Hospital in Houston. She became board certified in ophthalmology in 1998.
Before relocating to Austin, Dr. Rainey was the Director of Pediatric Ophthalmology at Kelsey-Seybold Clinic, a large, multispecialty clinic in Houston for nine years where she served on their Board of Directors. She \also serves on the Board of Directors for Austin March of Dimes and is a delegate to the Texas Medical Association. Dr. Rainey has a strong connection to Austin as her father's family has lived in and around Austin for more than 170 years.
She is a fellow of the American Academy of Ophthalmology, a member of the American Association for Pediatric Ophthalmology and Strabismus, Texas Ophthalmology Association, Texas Medical Association, and Texas Society for Pediatric Ophthalmology and Strabismus. Dr. Rainey has also been awarded Texas Monthly's Super Doctor for the past four years (2006-2009).
Lee Woodward, MD Pediatric Ophthalmology
Dr. Woodward, a native Texan, graduated from high school in Brownwood, Texas. He earned his bachelor's degree in microbiology from The University of Texas in Austin. He graduated from medical school in 2004 at the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio. He then completed a transitional year internship at The Reading Hospital and Medical Center in Reading, Pennsylvania. He subsequently returned to the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio where he finished his residency in ophthalmology. His fellowship in pediatric ophthalmology and adult strabismus was completed at Children's Mercy Hospital and Clinics in Kansas City, Missouri.
From 2009-2011, Dr. Woodward practiced at Kilimanjaro Christian Medical Centre in Moshi, Tanzania. He served as Head of Training for the ophthalmology residency program at Tumaini University. He was also involved in fellowship training for pediatric ophthalmology and adult strabismus.
Dr. Woodward is board certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology. He is a member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology, the American Association for Pediatric Ophthalmology and Adult Strabismus, Austin Ophthalmological Society, Texas Medical Association, and Travis County Medical Society. As our newest team member, we are confident Dr. Woodward will be a great asset to the Dell Children's Eye Center, not only clinically, but in furthering the Seton mission and vision in Central Texas.
