Mortality rates for many childhood cancers have declined dramatically since the late 1970s. Today, four out of five children diagnosed with cancer will survive. At Dell Children's, our patients are given everything needed to promote their health and well-being – from outpatient and inpatient chemotherapy, surgery and medical care to child life activities and psychosocial support.
Our oncology specialists provide the latest treatments for children and adolescents with cancer, including the diagnosis and management of leukemia, brain tumors, lymphoma, cancer of the bone and soft tissue, and other rare tumors. We coordinate radiation therapy and home health treatments. We also connect families with support services provided by outstanding Central Texas community resources. Patients with tumors of the brain or spinal cord receive specialized multidisciplinary care through our neuro-oncology clinic. Once patients move beyond cancer treatment, they are followed through adulthood in our cancer survivorship clinic.
The CBCC participates in pediatric cancer treatment regimens designed by the Children's Oncology Group (COG), an international research organization sponsored by the National Cancer Institute. By working with the most advanced clinical trials, each of our patients receives the highest quality of care possible. Studies show patients treated with COG protocols have significantly better disease-free survival rates than those who have not received the same treatments.
We strive to empower patients to take charge of their health so they can improve outcomes and lead happy, fulfilling lives as survivors of pediatric cancer.
