Children’s Blood & Cancer Center Hemophilia Clinic

Who We Are

The hemophilia clinic is dedicated to the specialized care and treatment of patients with congenital bleeding disorders, including hemophilia, von Willebrand disease, and related bleeding disorders as well as individuals with clotting disorders.

The multidisciplinary hemophilia team consists of a collaboration of hematologists, certified pediatric hematology nurses, social workers, researchers, nutritionists, and child life specialists.

What We Do

The hemophilia clinic meets weekly and provides the following diagnostic services and ongoing medical care for patients with congenital bleeding disorders:

  • Annual well-child check-up with a pediatric hematologist
  • Dental, orthopedic and physical therapy evaluation
  • Learning activities about hemophilia and thrombophilia and healthy lifestyles with a pediatric hematology nurse
  • Activities to promote individual self-expression and learning of coping skills with a child life specialist
  • Printed educational materials
  • Opportunities to meet fellow families with similar experiences
  • Social Work consultation and access to other support services including school visits and community resources
  • Access to participation in national research conducted by the Center for Disease Control and the National Institute of Health

Program Goals

Hemophilia is a lifelong disease, and our goal is to provide the best quality of care for every patient. With careful management, many children can live healthy, active lives with a normal life span.
