Comprehensive care close to home
At the Children's Blood & Cancer Center, we offer comprehensive services - from outpatient and inpatient chemotherapy, surgery and medical care to child life activities and psychological support. And it's all available right here in Central Texas. Families do not have to travel outside of the region to receive quality treatment for childhood cancer and blood conditions.
Cancer program
The center provides outpatient and inpatient chemotherapy and medical care to children and adolescents with leukemia, brain tumors, lymphoma, cancer of the bone and soft tissue, and other rare tumors. The staff also coordinates radiation therapy and home health treatments.
Each year the Children's Blood & Cancer Center team diagnoses approximately 75-80 new cases of childhood cancer. Our program participates in pediatric cancer treatment regimens designed by the Children's Oncology Group (COG), an international research organization sponsored by the National Cancer Institute.
By working with the most advanced clinical trials, each child receives the highest quality of care while keeping their lives as "normal" as possible during treatment. Studies have shown that patients treated with COG protocols have significantly better disease-free survival rates than those who have not received the same treatments.
Blood disorders program
Each year, the Children's Blood & Cancer Center medical staff evaluates approximately 300 children and adolescents referred from Central Texas physicians for evaluation of possible blood disorders, including hemophilia, von Willebrand disease, sickle cell disease, chronic anemia, and platelet disorders.
