Skippy Express

Medical Services for AISD Children

The mission of the Skippy Express Mobile Health Team is to address the unmet health needs of children from low-income families that live in the area it serves. The mobile health team delivers primary and preventive holistic healthcare at specified school sites to meet the children and their families "where they are." Services are delivered at either fixed school-based clinics or on a mobile clinic, the "Skippy Express," which is able to drive directly to the selected locations. The children are then referred on to appropriate locations for eligibility, medical and social services.

This approach is an attempt to confront known barriers that contribute to the lack of health care for these children. It is also an attempt to reduce the disparity between children eligible for Medicaid or other low cost health insurance and those enrolled in such programs. Our goal is not to be a medical home, but to ensure that each child served obtains a medical home.

The Skippy Mobile Health Team offers medical services to all children in AISD, 0-18 years of age, who do not have health insurance.

Services provided include:

  • Sports Physicals
  • Well Child Exams
  • Medicaid Texas Health Steps Exams
  • Treatment of Minor Childhood Illnesses
