Cystic Fibrosis (CF) is an inherited chronic disease that affects the lungs and digestive system. Having a child diagnosed with Cystic Fibrosis or being diagnosed with it as an adult can be an overwhelming experience. The Cystic Fibrosis Care Center at Dell Children’s Medical Center of Central Texas provides comprehensive clinical services and education to help pediatric and adult patients and their families with the daily care and treatments involved with CF. The multi-disciplinary CF care team includes physicians, physician assistants, nurses, respiratory therapists, a social worker, a dietitian, and a child life specialist.
Our CF center is a fully accredited pediatric and adult center by Cystic Fibrosis Foundation.
Multi-disciplinary approach to patient care
Our team consists of healthcare providers from various disciplines assembled to provide comprehensive care. The CF team meets regularly to discuss individual patient treatment plans with a collaborative approach. We also meet weekly to discuss ongoing quality improvement initiatives to provide the best service possible to our patients, including a patient representative.
Continuum of Care
Patients do not outgrow our commitment to care for them. We offer both a pediatric and adult clinic. We provide age-appropriate education to our pediatric patients and their families to help transition them into our adult care setting. We aim to empower patients to take increasing responsibility for their care as they progress through adolescence so that they are prepared for the level of autonomy our adult program expects. Fortunately, the majority of our team members provide care to both our pediatric and adult populations, offering a continuum of care.
