On behalf of the CBCC family, we congratulate Shannon Brown, who was awarded the 2014 National Hemophilia Foundation Social Work Excellence Fellowship. Shannon’s research project, “A Standardized Approach to Empowering Families with Hemophilia,” will teach supportive care techniques to families so they can enhance care for their child with hemophilia. The goals of the project are to reduce stress and anxiety related to hemophilia and increase feelings of empowerment for the parent and child.
As the CBCC pediatric hematology social worker, Shannon has become one of the strongest advocates for pediatric hemophilia patients in Central Texas.
“Shannon is patient, kind, and possesses a strong desire to help patients and families become self-sufficient in their medical care, which is crucial in the blood disorder community,” says Dr. Linda Shaffer, medical director of the Children’s Blood & Cancer Center. “We wish her luck in finding new solutions and bringing positive change to children with hemophilia through research.”
