Board certified in ophthalmology
Dr. Rainey earned a B.S. in Microbiology from University of Texas at El Paso and a Master's in Molecular Genetics from the University of Texas at Austin. She subsequently attended Baylor College of Medicine in Houston for medical school and finished her ophthalmology residency at Cullen Eye Institute/Baylor College of Medicine. In 1997, she completed a fellowship in pediatric ophthalmology and strabismus at Texas Children's Hospital in Houston. She became board certified in ophthalmology in 1998.
Before relocating to Austin, Dr. Rainey was the Director of Pediatric Ophthalmology at Kelsey-Seybold Clinic, a large, multispecialty clinic in Houston for nine years where she served on their Board of Directors. She \also serves on the Board of Directors for Austin March of Dimes and is a delegate to the Texas Medical Association. Dr. Rainey has a strong connection to Austin as her father's family has lived in and around Austin for more than 170 years.
She is a fellow of the American Academy of Ophthalmology, a member of the American Association for Pediatric Ophthalmology and Strabismus, Texas Ophthalmology Association, Texas Medical Association, and Texas Society for Pediatric Ophthalmology and Strabismus. Dr. Rainey has also been awarded Texas Monthly's Super Doctor for the past four years (2006-2011).
