About our Magnet Nursing Award
Nursing services at Children’s Hospital of Austin was awarded the coveted Magnet Award—the highest level of recognition that can be awarded to nursing services in healthcare organizations in 2002. The American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) awarded the Magnet designation. Children’s was the second children’s hospital in the nation to receive Magnet designation. Magnet is a four-year designation.
Dell Children’s will be reapplying for the Magnet designation in July, 2007.
Hospitals that achieve Magnet designation are organizations committed to sustaining excellence, improving professional practice and transforming the culture of a work environment. Magnet hospitals foster an environment that empowers nurses, values their contributions and supports nursing leadership. Magnet designation provides consumers with the ultimate benchmark to measure the quality of care that they can expect to receive.
“We have a premier environment for nursing practice at Dell Children’s. This recognition will further our efforts in recruitment and retention of highly qualified members of the healthcare team,” said Bob Bonar, president and CEO, Dell Children’s Medical Center of Central Texas. “In turn, patient outcomes and patient satisfaction will be impacted in a very positive way.”
The American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) is a subsidiary of the American Nurses Association. ANCC is the nation’s leading nursing credentialing center, offering general and advanced practice certification in over 40 specialty areas. In addition, ANCC accredits agencies, organizations, schools and others that offer continuing education courses for registered nurses, and promotes excellence in nursing services through its Magnet Recognition Program. All ANCC programs are offered on an international platform through its Credentialing International program.
