AUSTIN, Texas - (May 1, 2012) - In affiliation with
Dell Children's Medical Center of Central Texas, the region's
only pediatric hospital, Seton Medical Center Williamson is now
offering pediatric care close to home for area families.
The
Seton Williamson Pediatric Program, the first and only
pediatric inpatient program in Williamson County, offers
quality care for non-complex patient conditions that do not
require a physician sub-specialist or surgery.
"Children suffering from asthma, bronchitis, pneumonia and
other less complex issues
can get the care they need, where they live,"
said Dr. Meena Iyer,
pediatric hospitalist for Seton Williamson's Pediatric
Program.
The eight-bed pediatric unit is supported by a team of Dell
Children's-trained pediatric hospitalists, acute care nurses
and respiratory therapists as well as child life specialists. A
playroom allows patients to experience the healing power of
medical play.
"With Dell Children's, we've built a program tailored to meet
the health care needs of area children and supported by a team
familiar with addressing those needs," said Michelle Robertson,
Seton Williamson president.
The Seton Williamson Pediatric Program helps to address
community demand for children-dedicated hospital care in
Williamson County. In the past two years, an estimated 25
percent of patients treated in Seton Williamson's emergency
department were children. The county's pediatric population
grew 13 percent in five years and is expected to grow 40
percent over the next decade.
Said Robertson, "As Williamson County's population grows and
evolves, Seton Williamson is growing in step to serve the needs
of the community."
Other Seton Williamson achievements include a nationally
recognized cardiac rehabilitation program, primary stroke and
chest pain center designations and a Level II trauma center-the
highest level of trauma care in the region.
Seton Williamson and Dell Children's are both members
of the Seton Healthcare Family.
